S.O.A.R Africa is an abbreviation for students optimum and revitalization Centre, a body that has passions not only in the students fraternity but also in the entire humanity.

My Name is KILIMO Ruto. I am a Teacher, Preacher and a Public Officer. Currently I am the Director in charge of Public Participation and Civic Education in Elgeyo/Marakwet County. I am so passionate about preparing a take-over generation who are currently our youth.

I am the founder of SOAR AFRICA. SOAR Africa is a revolutionary Youth Mentorship Platform developed after years of experience working with Students, Institutions of Learning and other key stakeholders. To this day, I have worked with more than 500 schools across all counties in Kenya speaking with students, parents, teachers and heads of schools. I have developed a wealth of mentorship materials including Motivational Books, Newsletters and Audio-visual materials. I have had the privilege to work with multiple organizations and individuals in community social activities that empower youth and students such as sponsoring exams in needy schools, donations to children homes, free motivational talks and guidance and counselling services to needy schools and individual students. I have conducted Capacity Building on Performance Management for various organization including the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), National and County Governments, Red Cross Kenya, World Vision Kenya, Action Aid (K) and Rift Valley Water Service Board and many others

I am a PhD candidate with JKUAT pursuing Leadership and Governance. I hold masters Degree in Governance and Ethics from Mt. Kenya University and a B.ED (Arts) from Moi University. I am a certified Management Consultant with Kenya School of Government, licensed counsellor with Empowering Lives international (USA)

Why the SOAR Africa Student Mentorship Program?

SOAR Africa was developed in response to the ever-changing, ever-increasing challenges facing students today. The Student Mentorship Program has been developed in response to an abundance of challenges faced by the current generation of youth. The vast majority of youth face challenges including:

1. Negative technological advancements such as: cyber bullying, graphic content, music with illicit content such as advocating of violence and objectification of women and irresponsible use of access to the internet
2. Radicalization of young people and exposure to ideologies relating to violent religious and political extremism

• Inadequate and detached parenting practices leading to a breakdown of the moral fabric present in the classical family set up leading to further behavioral abnormalities such as unconventional sexual affiliations, premature pregnancies, rape, suicide and cases of depression and other similar mental disorders

1. A lack of diligence in academic activities by students leading to an increase of behavior that is disruptive to the school environment such as student unrest, destruction of school property, theft, bullying and absconding of school duties
2. Gender inequality both in the case of boys and girls. In the case of boys, there is increased marginalization of the boy child not only in terms of academics, but also in regard to self-identity and self-expression. The girl child is equally perplexed with challenges. Despite recent developments in the empowerment of the girl child, there are still many outstanding challenges such as teenage pregnancy, early marriages and female genital mutilation
